Your Invitation to
Speak at YES Inspire Bristol – 30th October 2012
Read this – its brilliant!
Radio 4 featured an interview with people talking about events in London, and one thing fired my mind. It was the idea of Ignite 5 minute talks.
I was so impressed with the idea, I thought it was the perfect framework for YES Bristol, and gives you a chance to have your voice and have a platform for you and your thoughts, ideas, wisdom, or hints, tips, skills transfer etc. However, at YES Bristol we really like to get some conversation going around the subject, and so we will add a 5 minute Q&A into the mix.
So I invite you to speak at YES Inspire Bristol.
YES – JUST DO IT
Talk at YES Inspire Bristol
These are the guidelines/rules…. taken from Ignite London and modified a bit to fit YES Inspire Bristol.
Step 1: Get inspired
Since I got the idea from Ignite 5 minute talks, here is Scott Berkun from Ignite Seattle inspiring you to tell your story in exactly 5 minutes with 20 auto-advancing slides.
See VIDEO here.
What to talk about?
Your Story – Tips, Tricks and Inspiration
It’s all about your story. That’s what a YES Inspire Bristol talk is about. Your story may be an idea, an interest, hints and tips for success or just something fun; but in the end, it is rooted in your story and your experiences. Now you might think big, and why not, or you might simply have a small nugget, hint or tip or skill. Share one of your lifes skills, passions, insights, inspirations, lessons, point of clarity or other something you find interesting.
Step 2: Know the rules
In order to keep presentation times and expectations equal for all presenters, there are a number of rules that all presentations must follow.
1. Your talk must be exactly 5 minutes long. This is a short tight amount of time. You must practice your presentation to make sure it is exactly this long. Make sure you finish on your last slide.
2. Your talk must be accompanied by 20 unique slides. Your talk should not hinge on transitions, animation or sound. If you have a video in one of your slides, you have to be able to talk over it, and be prepared if the video does not play – this slide will still be displayed for exactly 15 seconds. Presentations must be submitted in .ppt format.
3. Slides will auto-advance every 15 seconds. Keep this time limit in mind while developing your slides, as 15 seconds isnt’ much time for your audience to read and listen to you. Auto-advancing will keep the pace moving and it can feel pressured. Practice, practice, practice!
4. Your talk may be followed by no more than exactly 5 minutes Q&A. This is also an extremely short amount of time. Be sure to wrap up within 5 minutes. Time will be strictly controlled. There will be no overt promotion (this is all about adding value and inspiring guests) though promotional material may be presented to be available in the refreshment break and the Chair will draw attention to it before the break.
5. Your talk proposal must be submitted by Sunday September 23rd at midnight. Not all talk proposals will make it into the schedule, but we aim to fit in as many passionate and unique ideas as we can.
6. Your slides are due September 30th, 2012. This must be a complete presentation. Please email your presentation to johnyesbristol@catoassociates.com. You can then make only minor typo changes to your presentation up until October 14th, and re-submit them only once, no further changes after that.
7. Your talk will be given on the evening of Tuesday October 30th. This will be sometime between 7:30pm and 10:00pm. You must be freely available to commit to giving your talk. The final list of speakers will be announced on Tuesday 25th September at the YES Bristol evening, and then on our website.
8. Your presentation may be recorded. If so, the video camera will most likely be on a tripod, angled in such a way as to show you and your slides. Any videod presentations will be publicly viewable on the YesBristol website, and may be used to promote future events.
Step 3: Send us your proposal by the Deadline
by 23rd September outlining who you are and why you are excited to talk about your topic.
This date has been chosen to encourage you now to JUST DO IT
Email your proposal to: johnyesbristol@catoassociates.com
I look forward to seeing your proposal very soon now.
Warm regards and good wealth, health and happiness to you
